Primary school SEN

Special Educational Needs (SEN) support in primary schools provides additional help for children who have learning difficulties or disabilities. 

What is SEN support?

• SEN support is extra or different help from what other children of the same age receive 
• SEN support can include help with reading, writing, communication, and more 
• SEN support can also include help with social, mental, and emotional health

Who might need SEN support? Children with physical disabilities, Children with hearing or sight problems, Children with emotional or behavioural problems, and Children with medical or health problems. 

What types of support might be provided? Extra help from a teacher or assistant, Working in a smaller group, Observation in class or at break, Help with communication, and Support with physical or personal care. 

Who can help? The teacher or SEN co-ordinator (SENCO) and The school's leadership team.
