
Key Stage 4 (KS4) is the two years of school education in England that lead up to GCSEs and other qualifications. It's normally Years 10 and 11, when pupils are aged 14 to 16.
What happens in KS4?
- Pupils build on their learning from Key Stage 3
- They meet the statutory curriculum requirements through compulsory and optional courses
- They work towards national qualifications, usually GCSEs
- They study core, foundation, and supplementary subjects
What subjects are included in KS4?
- Core subjects: English, maths, and science
- Optional courses: Can lead to general and/or applied qualifications
How are qualifications assessed?
- All GCSEs are now reformed and use the 9-1 grading scale
