The Social Worker's role in arranging the PEP Meeting:
The Social Worker is responsible for ensuring that the PEP meeting takes place. This should be within 10 -20 days of a child coming into care. The Social Worker should:
Initiate a PEP (even if the child does not have a school place). It is important that the Virtual School is notified as early as possible so it can support this process
Ensure that the PEP is effective and available for the first statutory review meeting.
Using Welfare Call to initiate a PEP:
When the Virtual School are alerted to a child coming into care, Welfare Call are informed as to who the Social Worker will be. This will generate an email to the Social Worker.
If you have not already been allocated a Welfare Call log on you will receive an email (as below) telling you how to log on and there will be a temporary password sent to you in a separate email
Services available are limited by Authority settings and contract. Please use the Welfare Call Extranet link below and using the password provided (sent separately). https://extranet.welfarecall.com

Once you are set up with Welfare Call you need to set the PEP meeting date (in consultation with the School, Carers and Parents- if appropriate) which must be within 20 days of the child going into care. Add the date onto the first page of the PEP where it says 'Set Meeting Date'.
If you have any problems, then Welfare Call (phone number above) are excellent at dealing with issues and the PEP Coordinators (Chris Dixon - Early Years; Helen Lee - Primary; Michelle Hart - Secondary and Helen Dann - Post 16) will all be able to help you.
The Social Worker must arrange the PEP meeting and set a date for the next PEP meeting so the PEP can be signed off, liaising with the school's Designated Teacher and parents/ carers.
Timely and effective planning and collaboration at this early stage will ensure that the PEP is fit for purpose and that difficulties are minimised later in the process.
During the PEP meeting, the Social Worker will contribute to the discussions about the child's needs and actions needed to reduce barriers to learning. The following actions must be agreed:
Targets for the term.
Clear, evidence-based interventions.
Strategies to achieve the targets.
The expected outcomes.
Detailed costings for spending the PP+ funds.
The Social Worker must also complete the 'About Me' page.
It is the Social Workers responsibility to complete the 'About Me' information on the PEP, including the most recent SDQ score and an update about life story work.
