Corporate parenting duties:

Corporate parenting is the collective responsibility of a local authority to provide the best care and protection for children in care and care leavers. The responsibilities of a corporate parent include:

  • Promoting the child's health and wellbeing

The corporate parent should promote the child's physical and mental health and wellbeing.

  • Encouraging the child's views

The corporate parent should encourage the child's views, wishes, and feelings.

  • Ensuring the child has access to services

The corporate parent should ensure the child has access to services.

  • Providing stability

The corporate parent should provide the child with stability and support to make progress.

  • Helping the child access new opportunities

The corporate parent should help the child access new opportunities and experiences.

  • Celebrating the child's successes

The corporate parent should celebrate the child's successes.

  • Supporting the child to gain confidence

The corporate parent should support the child to gain the skills and confidence to live independent lives.
