Like physical health, we all have mental health.

Both can change throughout our lives, and like our bodies, our minds can become unwell. The effects are as real as a broken arm, even though there isn't a sling or plaster cast to show for it. Mental health problems are more common that you might think.

One in four adults and one in ten children and young people are affected by mental health problems in any year. There are many kinds of mental health problems, some of which are low mood, depression, anxiety and stress. Having a mental health problem can be hard, but sometimes isolation and stigma can make it even worse. Talking about mental health doesn't need to be difficult and can make a big difference. People often worry about offending or upsetting others if they discuss their mental health, but from evidence we know that people with mental health problems would rather talk to someone they know.

5 Ways to Wellbeing For Children & Young People

The 5 Ways to Wellbeing are 5 simple things that can help children and young people boost their wellbeing and feel good:

1. Connect

Spending time with the people around us improves our sense of belonging and makes us feel good.

2. Be Creative

Using your imagination and making time to have fun and play can help you to feel good.

3. Keep Learning

Learning new skills can give you a sense of achievement and a new confidence.

4. Be Active

Being active isn't all about looking good; it helps us feel good too.

5. Take Notice

It's not often we stop to take notice of the world around us, think about how we are feeling or try to live in the moment.
