A BTEC is a vocational qualification that combines practical learning with theory and subject content. BTEC stands for Business and Technology Education Council. 

What are BTECs used for? 

  • BTECs can be used to gain occupation-specific skills.
  • BTECs are a good option for people who want to work in a particular industry.
  • BTECs can be used to get into further education colleges.
  • BTECs can be used to get into university.

What are the different levels of BTEC?

  • BTEC Firsts: A Level 2 qualification that's equivalent to GCSEs 
  • BTEC Nationals: A Level 3 qualification that's equivalent to A-levels 
  • BTEC Apprenticeships: Available from Levels 2 to 5, these are higher apprenticeship standard BTECs 

How are BTECs assessed?

  • BTECs are assessed through exams, coursework, projects, and sometimes placements. 
  • BTECs are tested throughout the course using assessments based on real-life scenarios. 

What are the different sectors that BTECs are available in? 

Applied science, Art and design, Business, Childcare, Construction, Engineering, Media, Health and social care, Hospitality, and ICT.
